Inexpensive Detergents for that Freshly Washed Feeling

Posted by Lilla under Household Cleaning

Hey there,

I’ve been doing a bit of research this week on laundry detergents because I’ve almost used up my big bottle of 7th Generation environmentally friendly laundry detergent.  I got the big one at a local Big Lots store purely on accident. No, the accident wasn’t me buying that brand, the accident was finding it at Big Lots on a day when I was there.

If you aren’t familiar with Big Lots, it is a sort of outlet store for overstocked merchandise that is picked up from major retailers when they over order.  I’ve found some really great deals there.

Scare Tactics and Science

Posted by Lilla under Just thinkin'

Every so often as I am reading I run across an article that just makes me wonder if the editorial staff of most magazines have just decided to print whatever will sell the magazine, newspaper, journal, book… you name it.  Most recently I ran across an article in Scientific American (which I have respected as a reputable scientific magazine) that really threw me for a loop.  The headline; “Electronics Industry Changes the Climate with New Greenhouse Gas”.  I, of course, read it.

I would love to see some hard science on the whole Global Warming theory.  Once again I was disappointed by what was a sensationalized attempt to gain readers.  Apparently there is a “new” gas (Nitrogen tri-fluoride, NF3) with 17,000 times the global warming capacity of carbon dioxide. Ok, fine, according to what source?

Rub my bottle… g’head! You know you want to!

Posted by Lilla under Just thinkin'

Hi there,  I’m the Big Green Genie,  I am completely committed to helping people live a “Greener” lifestyle from now on.  What I am not is an alarmist who will tell you that “Global Warming” is real, or that you are to blame.  What I am is a person who thinks that for the most part people in general are pretty damned wasteful and thoughtless.  I want the world to be beautiful for my children and their children and so on, and the only way I can see that it will happen is that we all do our part to make it happen.

I can almost hear you now, “But Genie, you are contradicting yourself” All I have to say to that is that there are a whole bunch of people out there who would disagree with you. The same people that were trying to make a difference before the specter of “Global Warming”( “GW” from now on) reared it’s ugly head.  And I’m not talking about Green Peace, or PETA, or any of the other semi-militant groups either.  I’m talking about the Flower Children of the 60′s.  The ones who wanted to get back to nature and live a simple life. (granted they were also the ones who thought recreational pharmaceuticals were a good idea, but we can forgive them that little foible).

The purpose of this blog is just give people some good ideas for reducing their impact on the world, and maybe even help them be a bit healthier.
